JD 1206 Haybine

Does anyone have experience with a JD 1206 Haybine? I am interested in: how old would this model be, is it a reliable model, and in good condition, what would be a ball-park price? Thanks for your help!

If it is a 1209, I have one. Mine is well used I believe as I got it used. It is a good enough machine. There was a serial number break so if you have the earlier one and try to get some parts, like complete sickle, you have to get extra stuff to update whole assembly to latter serial number or 1219. I ran into same problem when I broke one of the Ujoints on conditioner drive line. My conditioner rolls are worn enough I pretty much use it as a mower. It lays out a wide swath behind even with shields clear in so requires raking later, dries well though.

I'm thinking it is a 1209 - a friend told me about it and I plan to buy it once I check it over. He says the rollers are good, has the adjustable wings, needs power-washing, and knives are in good shape. The guy is selling it for around $600 (due to health reasons) which I thought sounded really low as I checked them on-line & they were starting at $2500 up!
Thanks again for your response & information.

$600 sounds pretty cheap as I seldom see any mower/conditioner advertised for less than $1000. Only concern would be gearboxes. If you could hear it run you would see if they are ok. Maindrive gearbox on right end of swather and sickle drive gearbox below it near sickle head. I found out main drive gear box takes JD cornhead grease last fall. Mine was filled with heavy oil. Surprising what you learn from reading the operator's manuel

I've been using a 1207 for a few years. Got it for 1200. It was pretty beat up but I didn't know any better. I put a few new parts on most every year and it gets better and better. Rolls are missing about half the rubber but it does OK. Pull it with a Ford 2000. Wish I could find some decent rolls for it. I like the high chute on the back. I can stand up under it to clear jams.

I had a 1207 for several years and treated me very well. I was aggressive about having good knives, no clog stub guards, and keeping the machine adjusted correctly. If set up well you will never have clogs and should be able to mow 2/3 acres an hour. Solid machine in there day.
