Another MOCO Question-Case IH

I'm looking at another disc style mower conditioner. It's a Case IH 8309. Is this a decent machine, and what should I be wary of?
The guy says it's in good shape, and he is looking for $5,000 for it. I haven't looked at it yet
Thanks
Pete

From what I remember, CaseIH has never "made" their own hay equipment. Prior to Fiat buying up New Holland (they already owned CaseIH), all the CaseIH hay tools were made by Heston (AGCO). Once Fiat had NH under it's wing, the CaseIH hay tools were basically repainted NH models.

From the pictures I looked at of a 8309 on tractorhouse, it seems like the 8309 is a repainted NH 411. I haven't had any experience with them, but they are an older machine. If it is in good shape, it would be a good mower for a smaller operation. As with all disc style mowers, make sure you check the cutterbar out.

Hope this helps, Josh

Do a little more checking first as I think the machine you are talking about was built by Hesston.Hesston built some very good hay equipment and I would not be afraid of it if it is a Hesston.

The reason I thought it was a NH was due to the shape of the shielding over the cutter bar and the tongue design. Was there another model that Heston came out with after the CaseIH 3309?

I do agree that the Heston mowers were/are good quality if taken care of, but I also think the NH fall into the same boat (good quality as well). The problem with the older ones is how well were they taken care of?

The CaseIH 8309 is the same as a Hesston 1320. It is built tough for its size and uses the same cutterbar design and components as a 15-ft SP header.
