white 5100 planter

I've never been around one. Been keeping an eye out for a
deere and came across one of these. Looks like lots of new
parts and decent condition. It's a 6 row with 30in spacing.
Are these good planters? Can you put soys in with them? Are
parts easy to find?

Yes, yes and yes. Much better than a 7000 Deere. I"ve had one for probably 15 years and love it. Great accuracy, very little maintenance and parts are available from AGCO or Shoup. Plus you don"t need to take your meters in for checking every year like a Deere or Kinze.

I"ve had mine about 15 years too. Basicly idiot proof. For planting beans there are 2 plates available. One has a small hole in each cell, puts out 2 beans per cell. other one has no hole . Puts out only one bean per cell. think that is for when you run the extra row units and plant in 15' rows. They sold me the wrong ones and couldn't get a high enough population.

My brother bought a 9800 NI same as the White 6100 it was a panic buy so he could nothrill his corn in. If I never saw that planter again it would be to soon. Of course we had to get a few things ready to plant in like 3 days and needed to be going for 1 of those days. The drive seems to be the pain to me. Have changed a few shear pins. The chains would not stay on at first. The clutches would not release when up. Got 2 of those to finally release when up so it shuts off on the ends. I planted the first 10 acres by stopping the PTO to prevent the air from dropping seed on the ends. I think it was in dire need of oil and grease. The clutches went to working after oiling each fill up and when ever stopped for something. The plates/disks reminds me of going back to the old plate planters. Needed one for each different seed. PITA
