poly twine breakage

Hi,
I have an old S-69 baler with a 53A Belt thrower installed. Ive been using poly(plastic) twine for a while now and Ive just seen an increase in the breakage. It appears to be partially melted at the break point. Im assuming its from the belt as its being fed back thru the shoot. Ive reduced tension, ive tried increasing my ground speed a little but it still breaks about one bale per every 15. I used to bel able to bale over 100 with no problems. Any ideas? Thanks Neal

I don't use a thrower but last year I had a lot of trouble with 130 poly.TSC is a mile away and always had good twine and all of a sudden it went to sh*&^t.We started buying 170 poly and haven't had one problem in 2000 plus bales.Works well in older balers because it and sisal are the same diameter.Main problem is not a lot of places sell 170.Buy it from a local independent dealer . $49.00 for two spools.Pricey but it works.Good Luck.

Try shortening your bales, too long bales will take too long to enter the thrower and belts will melt the plastic. Also, try removing the belts and reverse them. You probably will find that by reversing them, the new surface will be more aggressive and catch the bale much faster. An old balerman taught me this trick.

I have had some trouble with the 9000 poly, but went to the 7000 and haven't had any more trouble. It's a bit thicker.....

There is an adjustment for that. I can't tell you why it would have started doing it on its own, but it may be a stuck hay dog or worn baffles on the sides of the bale chamber. But to adjust it you should be able to move the top thrower belt assembly forward or back a little so that both belts are engaging the bale at the same time. Have a helper add hay a little at a time while you watch to see whether the top belt is engaging before or after the bottom. once you see, you adjust the top to coincide with the bottom. Once you have them engaging together it will throw the bale instead of melting the twine.

Hello,
I just wanted to thank everyone for the info. I"ve really checked the thrower for adjustments ,the only adjustment mine has is for the belt tension. I looked into turning the upper belt over, that looked like quite a job. Since I didn"t have time to do that before I needed to bail I went out and bought poly twine that was rated "210" and replaced the "170". Bailed 140 bales without having a single bale break a string. Hopefully that"s all it took to solve that problem, thanks again, Neal
