Dearborn mower

Hey guys, I currently have a Dearborn side mount mower (14-3) mounted on a Ford 9-N. It came with a pulley and an insert that requires the old 11/8 shaft. I would like to upgrade to the newer 1 3/8 shaft. Did they make a newer pulley for the 8Ns? Or did they have a different insert for the newer shafts. Thought I saw one on ebay once, but haven't been able to find it again.... As always thanks to all who reply.... Darryl

I'm not sure what kind of pully those mowers used.
Do you mean the standard type of right angle belt pulley which is very common?
If so then yes they did make one for the 1 3/8" pto shaft. They are not real common like the 1 1/8" ones but can be found. Probably cost in the $150-$200 range instead of the $50 range for the 1 1/8".
Ford continued to offer those well into the 60s and 70s so if you find one for a later Ford it will still fit your N.

I think what you need is a V Pulley. What you need is a split taper pulley of the diameter you need plus a split taper 1 3/8 dia 6 splined bushing. After you change the PTO shaft to the larger size you get this 2 piece pulley which clamps itself onto the shaft when you tighten 3 bolts. Woods Co. uses this type on the L59 mowers used on Farmall A tractors. I used to see these at TSC but don't know if they still have them. Hoover repair in Wisconsin probably has them.

Thanks Dave. Yes you are right, I have an 8 inch v pulley with a tapered bushing in the middle. 3 bolts etc.... I live in upstate New york also. Hope my TSC has them. Thanks!

Thanks for the info and the pic. I have a V pulley different from the right angle one you show. But good to know they made so many of them. Been thinking of a belly mower for the 9N. Maybe drive it from a 90 degree pulley like you show? Hmmm... no wonder I don't sleep at night! lol
