problem with 505super I bale size

baled couple bales other day with my 505 super i and i could not make a full bale, it would start making a racket and noticed
the idler in center of pic with chrome spring was raised up and the chain was so loose it was skipping.
what is causing this?

its got good teeth just hard to tell in pic because its dirty. the tensioner was raised up when it was slipping and not putting any pressure on the chain.

I have a plain I, not a super, but went to look at it. It was running fine last fall when parked, but now the idler sprocket is out of the links and off to the side. I'll have to go back with tools and work on it. Didn't look at the driven sprocket teeth, another thing to check. I'm not sure how what you described can happen. Is the nut on the end of the adjustment rod and is it tight? I was thinking that the pressure of the chain might make a loose idler jump up, which I'll also work on. Appreciate it if you will post as to what you find.
