Harrow wood bearing source

Find yourself a handy woodworker who can make you some out of any good hardwood. If they are kept greased, they will last a long time. Dick

I have a brother (Bill) who makes wooden toys as a hobby. In the past, he has made bearing for several neighbors who have culti-packers with wooden bearing. He has access to hard wood. Problem is, he would almost need a "good" bearing to use as a pattern. We live in Iowa, around Waterloo. If you want to pursue this further, email me @[email protected]. I might be able to have him assist you.

I needed some for an old packer once. Neighbor had a thick butcher block she got at a yard sale. It worked good. used a hole cutter on drill press to make center hole

Wood bearings are often made out of maple, then soaked in oil.....thus..."oil impregnated bearings" for longer wear.

I'm in Maryland & the local Amish directed me to some of their Kin in PA that made they for me, not free of charge of course.

I bought some originals for my dunham disc made out of Hard maple.I was told they usually lasted about a hundred acres

I have some old ones for a McCormick-Deering Soil Pulverizer, made by Cherry & Sons in the 1950s. They look like they were made from Red Gum, so probably nearly as hard as the steel axle which turns in them!
