I bought my neighbors 309 , it has the fert. box but the auger is frozen up.
ive removed hopper and the 3 bolts per side.
ive soaked it with pv blaster but still frozen.
im about afraid to heat it and damaging the fiberglass hopper.

I've never seen PB Blaster work on anything that was truly rusted stuck. I've got two 309 planters. If I don't soak the fertilzer auger in oil before I put it in storage - it will be stuck the next spring. When I got mine - they were both stuck something awful. Took some careful torch work to get them apart. The plastic shutter on the bottom is a hard part to protect.

is there anyway you could pour or let it set in a 50/50 mixture of acetone and automatic trans fluid

that is suppose to be one of the best penetrating oils out there, might be worth try.

did you get corn plates with it, some said they are hard to find?

same here,
on my little john deere planter, when I am through using it,
it gets a good wash job, then I pour used oil into all the planter boxes and fertilizer boxes and let it run out, then as I am taking it back to the storage shed, (under a big oak tree) I let the wheels roll, which works all the gears insuring oil is into all crooks and crevices.

so far, after many years this procedure has worked, its always ready to go each spring.

I would heat some olive oil in a sauce pan and pour in there and let it soak. I have had good luck with oil oil eating through rust as I see the rust in suspension. also works when using a torch I immediately pour olive oil in the joint and they typically come apart.

dave404,
You don't want to get anything with acetone in it on fiberglass or any plastic parts. It will damage any plastic it contacts.

ive got the bolts out of the 2 sides. 3 per side.
i removed both grease fittings.
it will have to be heated.
iif i can get the outside cast off, will auger come out
