New Holland Belt Bale Thrower

Anyone have one of these, specifically the 54A model, but there are other models just like it. There is a crank handle which is manually operated from the tractor seat. Rotating the crank handle adjusts the speed of the thrower belts. My problem: turning the crank handle does not adjust the belt speed because there is flexible hose or cable attached to the crank handle rod which is then connected to the screw that drives the belt tensioner. This cable or hose just flexs and twists and does not move the tensioner. Is there a bevel gear option for this or some other fix? It would be a real luxury for me if this would work!

I had the 53A which used a rope control, set it once and left it, had 16 and 18 foot throw wagons. Can you replace the hose with solid shaft? If it needs to flex in length you could use square tubing and square shaft, like a pto....one sliding inside the other.

Just replace the hose, and it will be fine! When you do replace it, use "suction hose", the kind that has the spiral re-enforcing wire, to prevent collapsing, in it!

Not familuar with that but I would guess thst the control is either stuck-rusted tight or the hose is bad. Make sure all parts are free and hose is good and should work.
