ISO Wheels for McCormick Deering No. 7

The original subject was "ISO Wheels for McCormick Deering No. 7".

I believe that my original rims were cut off and replaced with a truck rim to allow pneumatic tires to be installed. However, when I look at other original No. 7 mowers on the web, all of the spokes look a bit flatter than mine, which are slightly oval. Most of them also seem to have a two bolt clamp system on the inner part of the wheel that clamp it to the axle. Mine has keyed axle shafts and my wheels are actually held on by a center bolt with a large cupped washer that bolt to the axle. Any ideas on these differences? I"m starting to wonder if my mower was actually a rubber tire model from the factory.

Hello, I do not think that those wheels were on rubber from the factory. I have two Number 7 mowers with the same wheels, though not cut down. The cap in the centre should have a part number stamped on it; probably M2374, but possibly M2270
M2270 indicates the mower was built in 1932

M 2374 indicates the mower was built 1933-35

I can only see the start of the part number on one of the wheel spokes, but I suspect it is M 2378.
M 2378 indicates: WHEEL, MAIN (5¼" Face, Scalloped Oustide Center Rim) (Special)

These wheels are keyed. There were three keys to suit. The first was Q 412 used 1932-33, then Q 1 495 used 1934-38, then Q 40 used 1939 and superseded to M 42 009 in 1940, which will work with wheel M 2378.

I have attached a picture of the second Number 7 mower I bought where I found behind an old farm house.

Henry, did not realize that you had the No. 7 as well. The person that was talking to about the parts you were asking about 2 years ago had 2 of them in his shop yesterday all painted up and in prossess of reassembling them and both were already sold.

For my sins, I have two Number 7 mowers and one and a half Number 9 mowers. The incomplete number nine was a Geelong built version, so technically GL-9, but it is almost identical to the U.S. built mower. My GL-9 was never used, which is why it is incomplete. It sat at a rural IH dealer for many years until the dealership closed. Then it was bought by a chap who thought he might turn it into some sort of Go-Kart (no idea how) and then I bought it. It has wide wheels, complete frame and gearbox with flywheel, but none of the other parts except the foot lever.
