I bought a #9W mower, it needs a grass board and grass stick. Anyone have the dimensions of them. I have the manual and parts manual, just wanted an idea of the size. Figured on making them out of pieces of junk implements. Thanks. Mark

Made a grass board for our JD #39N sickle mower several years ago.

Used the old grass board as a pattern.

Take a look at the photo below of an original JD grass board.

Take a look at the measurements below:

Hope this helps.

Man.....James.....I wish you could be a little more detailed. Seriously, thanks a bunch. That's more than I was hoping to get. I didn't realize the grass board really is made out of wood. Great job on yours!

Nice work!
By the way, how long do wooden grass boards last most people. I have a IH GL-25-VO mower (identical to 25V in nearly all respects) and have been using the same wooden grass board for over twenty years. It is made of some sort of hard wood and shows no sign of giving up yet.

Henry , as long as they do not rot out or cet backed into somthing and broken they should last forever, never seen one wore out. How have you been doing? Long time no hear.

Have no idea how long the grass board was used.

The original grass board in the photo was off a JD No. 3 sickle mower.

Will put it on our No. 3 mower one of these days for display only.

Thanks.

Here's a photo of a metal board on one of our No. 5 mowers.

If you want the measurements, then just let me know.

My parts book shows a spring attaching the board to the outer shoe. Is it just to give a little "flex" to the mounting? Where does it go? The picture is somewhat vague. I love those yellow spoked wheels in that #5 picture.

The springs are pretty stiff, but yes they are designed to give a little "flex" to the mounting.

The spring goes on the outside of the grass board.

Sorry for the quality of the photo below, but the cutter bar is leaning up against the wall in the tractor stall; had to climb a short ladder to take the shot.

The JD factory round spokes were originally on "Lazarus" our 1940 B.

Cleaned them up a bit and put them on "John B" our 1943 B.

The spoked wheels are now on "Uncle Earl" our 1939 B.
