I seen this on craigslist
questions for any one that can help.
this planter is currently at 30 inch rows, can the row spacing be change (wider)? Can this type of planter be made into a no-til planter? And, Are the parts are still readily available? I may purchase and fix myself. thanks for the help

Is it me or is the tongue about 12 degrees out of level? I am pretty sure the JD 7000 could do or was no till. I have an IH Cyclo 800 so someone else will have to say for sure. May be as simple as adding trash removal coulters on the front side? I looked at them pretty extensively but ended up with the IH and don't recall now.

I would say yes to both. But that planter is junk/parts.Looks like a tree fell on it....By the time you buy/replace boxes, straighten tong and repair any other 'hidden ' damage, you could buy one ready to work for far less money. BTDT. TOO MANY times!

You cannot directly change row width between 30 and 36 by moving row units. The main frames are different. You"d nee to cut/weld wheel supports to make the change. The bent tongue is no big deal- can be straightened or replaced. Local dealer had a salvage planter and sold me the tongue for cheaper than I could mess with the bent one. Frame should be strong enough to add no-til components. Check the row units if they are bent- can"t see enough in the pic. FWIW, wide row units go cheaper than 4 30s.

yes, I understand it would cost a lot for parts. its listed at 600.00, its worth that for weight and the cylinder. if I bought parts, which looks like the hoppers and a different tongue, how much money would I have into it and what would it be worth? I have'nt seen a 7000 go for anyting less than 3000-4000 dollars around here, and the question is, how worn are they at that price. thanks for your suggestion

thanks for your reply, I currently have a IH 400 cyclo which works but its not accurate, I think because of the long seed tube that the seed has to travel is about 5 feet long makes the seed spacing not accurate? I'm looking for a planter that is more accurate.

thanks for your comments. its listed for 600.00, I thought it would be a good project for me this year

Wow.

The entire planter is a little light to make a notill out of. All the parts you need are available, but the results will be a tad light for some....

Get yourself on the Shoup mailing list, you will become very familiar with them until you are done. They can find you parts the JD dealer might not be able to find, tho JD supports these very well yet.

The planter units are clamped on so you can move them, but the lift wheels and lift is a welded rocker arm and does not move, so you cannot easily change the spacing to whatever you want. The lift arms need to be cut and rewelded.

I planted many years with a IH 400. You can get them to plant accurate but you have to drive slow. And I mean slow. Think about it. If you drive 1 mph. there would only be one seed in that 5 ft hose at a time so it would be completely accurate.

I have run a 400 six row narrow with dry fert. since 85. No problems on spacing. Good planter even without a monitor. Upgraded to a 800 Cyclo this year. Follow the instructions in the book and they are a good simple machine.

The 7000 is a good planter and I would buy it for that price.

It is not practical to change the spacing, just better off to find one the right spacing. The parts to convert it to no till are available. Parts are not cheap.

I have one like it for parts , should have most of what you will need ( including notil coulters ) if you buy it .
I sent you a email .
