John Deere Planter/Lister I D?

Picked up an old John Deere planting implement yesterday. It is on a three point toolbar. It has seed boxes/hoppers, with plates inside which are driven by a chain powered by toothed/spiked wheels running behind the drop tubes. In front of the tubes are "middle buster" moldboards. 50 years ago growing up on a farm in Nebraska we'd have called this a "Lister". The seller called it a "Buster/Planter". Ideas of model? and, of what I should call it? Thanks, kelly in tx.

Sounds like a lister planter to me. That's all we used planting milo growing up. Ours had the fluted feed cups instead of plates, driven by the gauge wheel that ran three boxes per side.

I think the name is a regional thing.They are called one thing in TX,something else other places.Dad always called them a "lister"(eastern KS).He had a cultivator that he called a "curler".

The best way to know what an implement is called is to get the owners manual and look at the name the manufacture calls the item and use that.If the maker calls it one thing and you go to try to buy parts and call it by some other name chances are the dealer will not be able to find a parts book to order the parts but if you use the makers name for it then they should be able to find the parts. Now the same implement may have different names from one mamufacture to anouther so best to know what your company that made it calls it. I have seen so many different ways of calling things on here that I do not know what they are talking about but if they would get the book and use the name on it then would know what they are talking about. I know acording to some companys a bedder and lister one plants on top of the ridge while the other plants in bottom of furrow but other companys use different tearms.
