Mac Don Haybine

Hi guys,
I am going to look at a Mac Don haybine. I don't know anything about them. I understand they are made in Canada? Where do you get parts for them? What are some things to look for or some models to stay away from? I appreciate all of your help.

I am the main mechanic at a very large dairy farm in southern WI and we have had MacDon products at since 1998. We started out with self propells with 25ft draper heads and Macdon came out to the farm and experimented with us on cutting alfalfa with this draper. Over the years they have continued to work with us when it comes to cutting our forage. For about the last 6-7 yrs we have switched to using 3 16ft self propelled sickle machines to cut our forage, such as rye too. We switched to the smaller heads because we couldn't get our forage dry enough, quick enough for chopping. MacDon has continued with incredible field support through all this. To add to this we run on average a 1000 acres of forage, cut every 28-30 days, May to October. The only major problem we have had is the planetaries used to blow out. But since 2002 they have redesigned and improved the planetaries and I have not had any more issues.

I've run MacDons for about 20 years. Yes, made in Canada. If you're a big enough customer, you get the field support like jd318 is talking about. Since I only crop 300 acres (160-180 hay), I just go to my dealer. Used to be one here in town, but he retired and the shop closed...now I have to drive a little over an hour each way. They are good about UPSing parts, if needed.
MacDon has a pretty decent web site - parts and owner's manuals, etc. Probably has a dealer locator, too.

There are only the sickle bar pull type Frontier mowers coming from Mac Don. The self propelled machines are all JD. Made in Ottumwa Iowa.
