NH 275 baler floor

Anyone had to replace a rusted out/worn out bale chamber floor on a New Holland 27X series small square baler? I have a bad floor, but apparently the replacement floor is no longer availalble thru NH. Wondering if I could remove my floor and hope there is enough left to take it to a fabricating shop and see if there is enough there for them to use it as a template to cut a new one. Looks like at one time maybe it was 1/4in steel about 18x24.

In my experiences,if the floor is worn out that bad,the rest wont be far behind.Do yourself a favor and replace the baler.Once you start fixin',you will never stop and have way more that a different baler would cost(and less 'headache').Yes it is plobabaly a "decent" old baler at present and it will cost money to trade.in the long run you will be better off to trade....JMHO, and I've BTDT!

Yes Delta you are posing a good $4K question there for sure. Was hoping I could get a floor cut for $150 or so, not a "huge" deal or sinking what I consider to be a lot of money in the machine, and figure it will help with resale. Got the baler for a song and had all the plunger bearings and rails replaced. It IS a decent old baler, ties a good knot, has a thrower and I"ve put about 25,000 bales thru it. Spent enough time fiddling with it so I know how it works and all the personality quirks. The previous owner(s) were idiots and did not remove the hay from the chamber while it was parked. Am usually a bit on edge during the hay season wondering what might be on the verge of breaking. Since the price of hay has been up the last couple of years, quality used small square balers around my territory are commanding a good price, so its a tough decision.

Delta is right on..look for a new one.. Is the "floor" you refer to in the bale chamber itself..I have replaced the "L" shaped "floor" on the sides of the bale chamber before on an old 65..bought that baler years ago for a song and it cost me the orchestra.. rebuilt the sucker and it still was junk..BUT made me alot more knowledgeable when I bought my 273.. so... Good Luck..

Where are you located Shale??? I bought a 275 baler for parts last fall. All I wanted was the super sweep pickup, knotters for spare parts, and a couple of the shields for my 273. Not sure how good the chamber floor is and I haven't brought it home yet so I cant go look at the moment... but I would be willing to let you have it pretty cheap if you need it and are close enough.

Have you considered "Bale Skiis?

Yes, there is a floor"right where the cross feeder pushes the hay in to the chamber. Bale skiis would not work, they would line the chamber beyond the knotters, which is in good shape. Hayrack, you could email me at [email protected]. The floor I am referring to is under the knotters. It has cut outs for the two lower hay dogs.

I doubt very much that original was quarter inch thick steel- if it was, it wouldn"t be worn out now. More like 3/16, 8 ga, (.125) etc. Could get a new floor formed if the rest of the baler is worth it. Any fab shop csn do that.
Alway$ a judgment call.

I have never made a baler floor, but a decent local sheet metal shop should be able to make one for you. I have a shop close that can make just about anything, but they aren't always cheap. I'd probably recommend 11 gauge, which is 1/8" thick, .25" seems way too thick. If you maintain/clean it out in the fall, that should outlast the rest of the baler. If the rest of the baler is in good shape, it might be worth the investment to keep it going.
