who much will a power steering pump from a car or pickup lift ? will they lift a two bottom plow and last a fair amount of time ? I"ve seen people use them on other things a thought it would be an easy way to put one on an old tractor . a friend has one on a shop press . anybody tried one for this ?

A neighbor has a PS pump on an AC 'WC'.It runs a loader and a 'sorta' 2point.Seems to be quite adequet for the job.

A GM power steering pump off one of there bigger trucks puts out in excess of 1500PSI so with the right cylinder it will lift a heck of a lot. I built a sickle bar mower out of 3 junk ones and belly mounted it on a Farmall B and used a small hyd cylinder to lift it and it worked just fine

A typical full-sized one is rated at 850 PSI and about 3 GP.

NOT a lot for running tractor hydraulics.

For example, a typical loader pump on an old 8N Ford can be 12 GPM at 2100 PSI.

Most power steering pumps have built in pressure relief and priority flow valves. They won't put out more flow at higher speeds. I have dismantled pumps and eliminated those features for higher flow rates and higher pressures. It was worth it for me under the circumstances.

I saw a 1 ton dump truck where the hydraulics was powered by the power steering pump. The pump was fed by a large hose connected between the fill spout and an external 15 gallon reservoir.

thanks that's what I needed to here I might try it . not gonna be out much if it don't work

Biggest problem is the lack of a tank of much size so using a larger cylinder 2 way helps slave that problem or rigging another tank to it

Find a power steering pump from a GM truck with the hydraulic braking system. Those pumps have three lines connected to them and they are a bit heavier and a slightly larger resivor.

Article in Mother Earth News back in the 70s had a PU running a hoist from the P/S pump.
