JD Trip Plow Conversion

Good Morning,
I have a JD 2 Bottom trip Plow I pull behind a JD B or my Farmall H that I would like to convert to Hydraulic using the power troll on the B or the belly pump on the H. Has anyone ever done this or could you point me in the right direction.
Thank You

I never heard of anything like that being done. The engineering of the plow would not be too hard but there will be expense making brackets and obtaining cylinders. Some manufacturers back in the day had a system for using the tractor hydraulics doing the reset but that was with systems that developed in excess of 2000 pounds pressure neither of which the H or B will do. Then it comes down to upgrading the hydraulics or using an accumulator system that uses special gas (nitrogen) for the push back element. More expense plus finding somebody that can recharge the system periodically. The bottom line for me would be it is too expensive for the return seen and if it were me I would live with it. Probably something that would at least bypass the hydraulic issue would be to graft a spring reset assembly onto a plow. It will take a lot of research to figure out and a shortcut might be to find a mounted plow such as an Oliver that already has it and put a three point system on one of your tractors. Again, I hope it would be worth all the fuss. If there is no reason to press the B or H into doing this plowing then I would bypass the whole project finding a three point hitch tractor then find a suitable mounted spring reset plow.

I have a John Deere model 44 plow that was converted from
mechanical lift to hydraulic lift. It's one of my parts plows that's
pretty well stripped. I think all the parts are still there to operate
with a hydraulic cylinder, but not for sure. With the snow cover
and where the plow is parked, I may not be able to get you
some pictures till spring. My email is open and I'm located in
northern NH.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. To chuck H, I would be interested in those brackets when the snow melts. Im new to this forum and am not sure what it means when you say your email is open. I don't see any email address.

Thanks

The Model 44 was available as mechanical and hydraulic lift. I think my plow has some of the bolt-on pieces for the hydraulic lift. Some brackets or pieces have been welded/modified from the original mechanical lift to hydraulic functioning.

For some reason I thought you wanted to make the plow an auto-reset. Were you simply wanting to go from mechanical lift to hydraulic lift? If you just want to go to hydraulic lift I would check with a parts yard such as Fry's in Pennsylvania as they could ship you the parts if your plow is a model 44 or something similar. Fry's 570-546-3968.

Lower right hand corner of the box has reply / send email. If you enter your email address in your post or reply, others can email you. If you don't enter your email it will say no email.

His says send E-Mail. You click on it and they will lead you through it safely. The forum makes sure they know who you are before you just send stuff to keep the spamers out.

When I was young all the old implements(planters, plows, cutivator, disk, drills)were fitted with a hydralic cylinder and hose from the tractor. Dad would look at how it worked with levers or mechanical and make a couple brackets(flat bar with a pin hole) and weld them on in the right places and we had a usable lift.
Usally one cylinder was enough to do the job.cleddy

(quoted from post at 15:11:02 02/16/14) Thanks for everyone's help. I will give Fry's a call, they are not that far from me.

JT - do you know what model of JD plow you have? If something like a 44 I am sure it would be easier with their style of frames they utilized - something older like the 52 plow might be hard to adapt brackets onto with their style of beams. What are you starting the project out with?

I will try to take a picture and upload soon. Not sure what model it is. Still digging out from the snow storm.
Thanks
