New Idea 632 running gear rating

6 ton. I have one an uncle bought new. He built a wood bed with 4 foot side boards + hydraulic lift.

A sad story with it... That year He found out he had terminal cancer. He was bright, & cheery on the 1st day of corn picking that year. Went out to the field with a JD 60, NI 324 picker / 326 husking bed, & his new 632 green, & white wagon. My cousin was with him; pulled a gravity bed wagon behind a JD A to the field. Cousin said He started out fine; but after 5, or so minutes got very ill. Uncle told him to finish loading the wagon, & he would take the A back to the house. My grandfather was walking back to the field when he came upon the JD A, & uncle slummped over the wheel stopped. Grandfather takes control, & in high gear runs him to the house, then the hospital. He never got to see his new wagon filled, & emptied; except in a couple of standard photographs from a hospital bed. I was given the wagon 20 years ago. I spent a lot of money to restore that gear, & put new 11 X 15 tires on it, all new bed with sides on it. I have to admit that it has been used enough its probably becoming a metal fatigue hazard. I had a wheel hub crack into, & the bearing fell off recently. I am thankful I wasnt going high speed down the road; but really changed my attitude about reliablity. I wont let anybody ride in it on the road anymore even empty!!! Weve picked corn in it for 40 years this year. I really think I need to look at something new to be safe.

Thanks for the story.

Seems like a well made gear, but very small/light when compared to the 638, 8 ton I have. The 632 has a killbros 300 on top of it, but I was hesitant to fill it this year as I wasn't sure of the gear's capacity. I kept it at 7500-8000#.

Thanks Dave

Are there any casting numbers on the hub? Probably made by either EWC (Electric Wheel Company) or F&H (French & Hecht)

If you can find some casting numbers, or anything on them, you might be able to find one that way. Is it a 5 bolt, 6 bolt? Chances are the same hub was used on several different brands. Also, have you tried to find it on Shoup's website, going by dimensions?
