Are the Hesston disc mowers any good? Ive used their haybines but not disc mowers, also before Agco bought Hesston did they have a mower? Who built them?

before Agco bought Hesston did they have a mower?

I'd have to go back and look at the history and see if they bought New Idea before Hesston. If they did, that would be the one.
Like you,I have a Hesston mower/conditioner,never heard any complaints on the Hesston disc type, but no personal experience.

I bought a used Hesston 1340 disc mower/conditioner about 10 years ago. It has been the most reliable piece of equipment I've ever owned. Finally, this last fall, I had to replace one of the drive belts. 'Only repair I"ve ever made to it.

I have a 1328 MF-Hesston- that I bought new and have used the last 2 years. It is the first one for me and haven't done anything to it except change blades. Have mowed at least 500 acres. Before I used a 1330 CIH moco. All I know it will cover the ground.

I currently run a CaseIH 3309 disc mower/conditioner that we bought used 7 years ago. It was the same mower as the New Idea 5209 and Massey Ferguson is still making basically the same mower under the model number 1359. I have been very happy with the mower and if they put the same quality into their disc (no conditioner) mowers, then I think you will be happy.

Biggest hindrance to MF equipment in my area is that the nearest dealer is over an hour away.

I bought a used NI 5209 couple years ago now, and it works great. Actually, less moving parts than a haybine. However, I disassembled my cutter bar and checked all the bearings and grease. Glad I did, there were problems.
