MF 33 grain drill

A MF 33 grain drill. Is on a therapeutic farm where I volunteer. I have it in my shop, all the disc openers need new bushings- no problem. I have never used a drill- does the agitator (if that is what it is called) in the seed box, stop turning when the rig is raised for turning at the end of the row? I'm trying to save them $, and if I can use vacuum cleaner hose instead of proper drops, I can save them $200. Does it matter what hose is used.

Yes, the works should stop turning when the openers are raised.
I would prefer to use the correct rubber hose for the drops for the simple reason that they are formed to fit into the distributor at the top and the opener at the bottom... and you should be able to remove them without tools to clean a plugged drop or opener. If you've got to start removing clamps and such to remove a stiff hose.... you're probably going to do some cursing or get cursed at... a lot.
Beyond that I don't see why the vacuum hose won't work.
