How big is too big?

I don't know too much about discing /plowing, trying to get the ground preped for some spring food plots at hunt camp. I've been using a disc with 4 gangs? on it with a total of 5 14" discs per gang, 10 per row (20 total 14" discs) there is a bigger disc with 18-20" discs with 4 gangs with 4 on each gang in the front and 5 on each gang on the rear (18 total 18-20" discs). The first one is made out of 3" angle iron and the 2nd is made out of 4" boxed steel. Was just wandering if the 2nd would be too heavy or if someone could tell me what to look for once it was hooked to my Ford 850 tractor so as not to tear it up. Thanks
Hope this wasn't too confusing

That little disc might work for your garden :) Use the big one. Try the first pass with the angle set one from the minimum. See how that goes, see where the rocks are. carry some wire flag stakes for rocks. I think your tractor will pull it fine at maximum angle Go slow. Discs are the easiest thing to break in the field.

You should have no problem with either of those. The larger one will work fine. I've pulled a 5 pan per gang, (20) total with my 850 for years now, an old Love MFG brand, pulls it fine, won't raise the front end up at all, will pull through heavy soil, easily.

I just picked up a M-F model 25 disc harrow for my 850 today, it's got 6 pans per gang, (24) total, there is no doubt this will be fine, think it has 18" pans on it, this one has a loader, but it would be fine without one. Not to worry, just don't speed through rocky soil and do not forget to lift it out of the soil in sharp or moderate turns. I have one field loaded with round rocks, I've never had any trouble breaking the other disc, but do adjust the speed for the conditions

Here's the proof, I moldboard plowed the strip shown after the power company left ruts, rough ground after the silt fence was removed, disc'd it up level again with the one I mentioned previously. No trouble for an 850 at at all.
