I purchased a 7 Shank V-Ripper at an auction. When I hooked it up it doesnt dig in. In order to get 3 of the shanks to dig in I have to get the frame to go lower in the front and the back goes in the air. It looks like an arrow pointed in the ground. So because of this my last 4 shanks are in the air. I was thinking that maybe the shanks dont belong to this ripper. Can anyone help?

Look at the very bottom of the points. If they
resemble a 'sled runner',then there is your
problem.They are worn out.Replace/renew them.They
must have 'suck' in order to properly penetrate
hard pack.

Listen to DeltaRed. Those points are probably worn down to the nub, and adding weights to the frame won't help either. If you put new points on it, it will work like it was intended.

Well I got two new points on. So I took off the other shanks and it still didn't dig in. I was wondering if the angles of the shanks are not right.

Is this a three point ripper or a pull type? If three point, try lengthening the top link. Why did you only replace two of the points on a seven shank ripper? It HAS to be dull points or the ground is just too hard for penetration.

It's a three point ripper. The store only had two points. Plus I think my tractor could only pull about 3 shanks. When I lengthen the center link my points start pointing upwards

Any chance you could get some pictures? I've never seen a ripper that wouldn't go in the ground.

What tractor is it on? Any chance draft control is taking over and not allowing the hitch to drop?
