Front Snow Plow for Ford 850

Does anyone have any pictures of how to put a front snow blade on a 1955 Ford 850? I would like to rig one up but haven't seen any on this tractor.

I use one on my 841 which for the most part is like your tractor other then having a 4 speed. It also has a loader so what I have may not help but if you have a loader I'll post a picture of my set up

I believe that it was the N news that had a story with plans a few years ago. It was supported by brackets under the rear axle, with a lift frame in the front. It was lifted by a cable off the 3 pt lift running to the front over three pulleys.

Most snow plows for the Ford N-Series and up through the 800s mounted with push arms back to the rear of the tractor. Some mounted onto the pins where the lower 3 point arms normally attach. Others mount onto the swinging draw bar attachment points. Both of these designs normally lifted via a cable/pulley arrangement off the upper lift arms. See pictures on YMT website http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=nboard&th=794156.

Have also seen a frame built to use a standard snow plow, with push arms to the rear of the tractor and front mounted to a bracket attaching to both sides of the timing cover on the front of the engine, plow mounting clevises on an angle iron across the front. Some have a lift assembly/arm with a hydraulic cylinder. Mine uses the Lord manure loader frame which mounts to the rear axle housings and the timing cover flange on the front.

Go to the Implement Photo Gallery on this website and search for "Snow Plow". There are 2 pictures of a Dearborn, 3 pictures posted by Shetland Sheepdog of his plow frame on a larger/newer Ford, 5 pictures of an Arps snow plow for a Ford N-Series, and 2 pictures of a Dearborn (not mounted).

not a 850 I found this manual for the front blade on a forum some where

The NAA thru the early thousand series mounted under the axle carrier and the two holes under the transmission. I have both styles, the cable and the hydraulic lift, on a few of my tractors. I can take photos if you need them when it stops snowing. I also have one for sale that needs work if interested.

I have the dozer blade and the Vee plow but not the mounts, nice to be able to see what they looked like, I saved them from a scrapper at a sale some years ago, do you know if collectors are looking for them? I can always use them on one of my tractors as well thanks for the pics

Here is what the rest of the Hyd frame looks like. i don't know where you are located but if in my area I might be interested in the V blade. My email is open.

We would need to know something about your fabricating slills to better advise you if you were going to rig up your own.
There have been Lots of different front plows added on to these Fords over the years by individuals.
Some were cable lift, some hydraulic lift.
I've even seen guys add a little winch on the front to raise and lower a blade they took off a pickup.
Maybe the nicest way is to find an original one like Kirk shows. Keep and eye on craigslist and be prepared to act NOW as they do sell pretty fast.
If you get an original one with hydraulic lift you will need a remote valve to raise it. Otherwise they did make the same blade and frame that raised with a cable off the 3 point in the back.
If your tractor is properly set up with rear ballast and good tire chains they will move a surprising amopunt of snow.
FWIW, the front blade and pivot (not the push frame)is the same on all those Dearborn and Ford blades and will interchange from the 8Ns through the 3 cylinder 3000 size Fords.
Kirk, didn't I see you had that Blue one for sale somewhere? That would fit his tractor. He'd just have to find the blade.

If you look at the photo again the blade is next to the frame. It was in the ad section on this site.
