2 bottom plow

bought my first John deere 2x14 rope trip plow today on steel. Guy said he thought was model 62 was wanting to know were to look to make sure if correct. also when were they produced and what would it be worth restored
thanks

Probably a 52 and not 62. 52 was the lighter weight plow and both furrow and land wheels were same size at 28". The 4B (never heard of a 4) was the heavier plow and earlier ones had the same open style clutch as the 52 but the land wheel was 32", later ones had closed or run in oil clutch and I think they went to same size wheels. Post beam numbers and some on here can tell you the model and possibly year range.

It's all about the 3 digit beam number (right next to the JOHN DEERE in the top of each beam). If they're 612 and 613 then you have a No. 52. If it's another combination, post back here. I'd suggest getting a copy of Dave Wolfe's book, The John Deere Tractor Moldboard Plow as it's the only comprehensive resource for JD plows out there (pre-1960).
See the link for more information.

what about a model 44 , if its on steel it probably older then 1945 , the 44 was made for a long time & was popular in the east , but did have several hitch designs , can you post a picture? would help & what kind of hitch does it have?

Had a guy look at it has adjustable hitch on it
the land wheel is one inch wider than other side and maybe inch taller
Don't know how to post a picture

Right side 583.
Left 62
I could read right side no problem. Left side could hardly make out, even john deere stamps were same way

44 does not have beam numbers stamped in as it is a truss frame plow with beams made of bar stock verses cast beam that was easy to add beam number to.

You have a 4B or similar plow. They were heavier and taller for more clearance than their little brother the No. 52.
They made a 4C and 4D version which had different wheel equipment. The 4A was somewhat similar but the hitch and clutch were very different compared to the 4B which replaced them.

The beam numbers should read 583 and 623. I've got a few of them for parts should you need something.
