looking at a 726 deere soilfinisher it is 27" will my 8640 handle this thing? we farm fairly flat ground but heavy clay.

It should. We pull a 24 foot 980 FC with an 8430 putting out about 185 PTO hp and it pulls it in B2 even under conditions where the ground is not worked ahead (no fall tillage). All bets are off if we have had days of 70 degrees plus before we have a chance to till as the ground bakes solid.

Plenty of soil finisher for the available power. If in good shape and relatively bargan priced, probably would chance it.

Neighbors had a 24 foot 722 they pulled with a 8440 with no problems, some heavy clay. I think they even pulled it with their 4440 a couple times on the lighter ground

On flat ground you will be able to handle it fine. IF you run the finisher too deep or have hills, then you will have problems.

sounds like i'll be down to 5mph in some conditions with this then? i'm also looking to pull a rolling harrow behind it at some point.
