Here in central Kansas the plate style of Deere 7000 is about all you find because when these planters were new there was hardly any corn or soybeans grown here. Milo was the major row crop and for that the plate version is more accurate than the feedcup. These planters use the standard Deere plates, the same ones as the 71 unit planter. There is a wide variety of plates available including many for planting vegetables such as sweet corn, green beans, melons, onions, etc. As the others have said, the finger pickup version of the 7000 is basically a corn and soybean specialist.

Yes I am referring to the plate. We were once in milo country also. Only plates I can seem to find is corn milo and soybeans. Do you have a source for the others?

Many are actually still available from Deere; I ordered a pumpkin plate from the dealership a few years ago. Plan on around $30 per plate if I'm remembering right. I've also picked up quite a few for a buck each at used equipment yards in areas where vegetables are/were grown. Note that for many of the vegetable plates the correct filler must also be used.

I have a pdf copy of the PC0268 seed plate catalog from 1981 that lists everything they made. Shoot me an email at nafziger (at) mtelco (dot) net and I will send you a copy. This catalog also spells out what filler plates or hopper bottoms are required.
