Good job of plowing!!!

That is a nice job, all that green going under cleanly, adding nitrogen etc. I suppose the secret to this is matting that grass down before it gets to the plow like the tractor is doing, a more open throat area size plow, correct speed etc. I did not see any coulters, but it looked like there were stems for those on the plow, just the angle of the shot. Its interesting to watch, as I've never had any luck doing that with standing grass or weeds, certainly know it can be done, would prefer it too for the nitrogen value but..... LOL ! actually getting it to work is another thing. Cut that grass it will plug, know how that works LOL ! clean stubble, no problem at all. It may be a matter of adjustment, speed or something, but my 2 bottom 101 ford would seem to make a mess in that, beam to beam I think its 14", new shares are 16" long on it, has coulters.

Where exactly is it that the #9 wire or whatever is mentioned here so often about plowing tall vegetation, attached on a plow to mat the grass or guide it so its covered?

That 6030 is pulling that plow nicely, clean exhaust, no soot plume like it almost does not know its even there LOL !

Impressive! That must be some fairly light ground I would think. I wonder how long it will take that stuff to rot down though? On my place if I plow under hay like that, if I ever could, it will still be there 2-3 years later forming a mat at the bottom of the furrow. I've seen it last 4-5 years on wetter ground. Clay is whole different ball game.

I would have mowed and baled that stuff! Seems a waste.

I can never find traction in my heavy clay soil, tires spin out before I run out of power. That vid looks neat. 175 hp on a 2wd tractor just doesn't work so good. I have 145 or so hp, and spin at times with a 4-20 plow.

You tie the wire onto the coulter bracket. Lower is better, with dads old Y coulter brackets you just tied it onto the bracket right next to the coulter shaft. On the newer one arm brackets have to tie up front more.

The tractor pulling the plow is a 6030.

It sounded to me like guy doing the filming was setting on a 2 lunger.

When the 6030 got closer you could here it and as the 6030 got farther away the 2 lunger came back into the audio.

Interesting video. Those are great plows. I kind of like those tractors too, for a jd. lol Too bad they didn't have a better engine. I took a couple apart when I worked at the salvage yard and that tranny/rear end is heavy enough for a lot more hp.

Gary,

I agree about the two-cylinder tractor, but I think it might have been moving along under load - sure didn't sound like idling or not much load to me.

Just my opinion - haven't really worked one of those tractors for 55 years or more.

He must have everything going right for him. I had to walk a plow to many times as a kid to get that much stuff to go through. And dad had a 3-14 Case plow too.

Hate to be a negative Nancy here but what a waste of good organic material or hay for that matter. I agree with an earlier post, I'd have baled that, sprayed the regrowth and no-tilled. Or, roll it, plant, then spray. Rolling that much grass under, it'll take a full season or 2 before it rots. Oh, well, that plow was doing a heluva job though!
