gehl flail chopper

Hi guys,
I acquired a 72 gehl flail chopper. I need to replace a few flail knives and am wondering how the heck you pull the shafts the knives run on. I thought that running it this fall would help, but hasn't changed it. The shafts the knives are on are fused in there. I tried heating them up with a rose bud and that hasn't help either. Any tricks of the trade are much appreciated.

I know Dad did it many moons ago on one of the 3 gehl's we've had on our farm. I think you're gonna be in for a fight if you do have any chance of getting the rods out. Think it's just a straight shaft in there, and probably rusted like you wouldn't believe.

Your flails busted or just really dull?

I have 3 broken ones and the rest are really dull. I have a parts one with it and the knives on that one are really good minus a couple broken ones. I am stumped on this one. I can't believe the torch wont break them loose

It's been a few years, but isn't there a cotter pin in the ends of them? I never thought they were real bad to get out. There's a hole that you line up and drive the shaft out with another rod from the outside.

For some reason this one has the holes in the spool of the flail chopper, but none in the tin. You can't get anything in from the hitch side. I did manage to get 2 rods out. 6 to go. I heated the heck out of them and welded up a nut over a piece of steel that exactly fits the flat spots on the shafts. I then took my 3/4" impact and worked them out that way. I still took 3 hours for 2 shafts.
