info on wood drag harrows

Wondering if anyone has any literature, mfg's names, etc that made wood drag harrows (peg or spike tooth harrows with wood frames). Appreciate the help.

I guess I am looking for those that have a trapezoidal shape, so that the side sections have the long side to the front and the middle the short.

We called them "boss" harrows. Evener was a PITA if turned too short and the rear tractor wheel caught the rods and flipped it over a tire. I was too little and scrawny to get it off. Transport was a pain, having to unhook everything and load on a trailer between farms.

Lynn Miller of Small Farmers Journal has out a book called Horse drawn Tillage Tools. Appairantly MANY manufacturers made wood frame harrows. Some of them many multi sections, both the diamond style and the regular

I have no idea who the manufacturer of this one was, but it is a picture of my dad standing on one in the early 30s.

McCormick, I have 4 of those sections and the parts book, there was a model but would have to get the book out to know what it was.

My dad and uncle built spike tooth wood harrows similar to the photo. They built 6,7,8 and 9 ft. harrows through late 40's to early 60's.

Grandpa and Dad had one like that. 5 section, when Dad wasn't around use to do a rollin shift to road gear with the DC Case. When I'd get done he would say"that didn't take long", not knowing about the road gear part.

Dad bought a box of spikes at an auction and made an "A" frame harrow. Squared off some oak logs to about 8"x8",(not 100% sure on the size) and abut 5' long, drilled holes and heated the spikes to red hot and drove them into the wood. It wasn't adjustable, but it worked.

I have seen pics of a home made unit made of 4x4s 4x6 and a few 2x4 and landscaping spikes. I have a friend that made one as well using the pic as a reference. google home made wood spike harrows and several pics popup including some old factory made ones.

I've got a 5 section like you describe. Steel evener with it has " Lindsey "stenciled on it. But I don't think its the original. Sections have been repainted so nothing on them. I thought I read somewhere that you could still buy new ones. This one is definetly factory made.
