Woods Mower Conversion to Pull behing

I have a Woods 59 mower from a Farmall Cub and was wondering if it would be possible to make a pull behind finish mower out of it? I would get a 13 HP Harbor Freight motor but don't know things like the rpm's to run and what kind of clutch mechanism to build. I would put 2 stationary wheels on the back of the mower and use the existing front swivel wheels as is. Is this a feasible project or it is a waste of time/money? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've seen these projects before. I think you're going to throw away a lot of time and money on something that won't be worth what you've spent. That PTO turns somewhere around 500-550 RPMs. You'll have to gear the motor down so you can run it at high RPMs to have any power. If what you have now is in nice shape, just sell it and buy what you want instead of spending a fortune and ending up with something that is worthless and doesn't work anyway.

They sell those pull behinds pretty reasonably. I'd do that.

I have a 59 on an A. The pulley on the pto speeds it up from 540. Maybe doubles? An air cooled motor runs at 3600 rpm WOT. I'm sure a smarty pants could do the math and tell you what size pulleys to have, but I would just trade to a pull unit. I love the woods on my A - it does a great job. I'm not sure what it would do as a pull unit.

I built a tow behind out of a Bolens deck and an 8HP Tecumseh quite a few years ago before the commercial ones were around. Took a lot of design and fabrication but it worked great for many years until I got a Cub with a Woods deck. I would never go back to the pull mower.
You would be better off to mount yours on a Cub or sell it and buy a tow behind if you are bound and determined to have one.

Had a long belt drive IH belly mount mower on my Farmall 100, my son rigged it up to rear mount still using the long belt drive, It worked ok. I don't remember exactly how he hooked it up, have since sold the mower.
