Ford Plow 142

anyone have experience using a Ford 142 plow 2x16"??????????,
I need a better plow to turn over my garden and truck patches in the spring.
I have a set of 12" plows, but they choke up all the time with garden and corn stalk debris.
this plow is for sale in my area, but before I bought, I thought I would ask around as I have never seen one like it, but it looks like it has plenty of throat area, so it should not choke up so bad.

Spring trip is nice. Will prevent damage from obstructions,a good thing if you plow other people's ground. That is a 'modern'/late plow.looks to be of a more european design.2x16 will be a better plow.more trash clearance ,plus the ability to go deeper.Your old 2x12 plow probably has the old 'blacksmith' shares, the 'new' one should have 'throwaways',a major improvement. One thing to be aware of,it will take a little more power to pull than the 2x12.

I have a TO-35 ferg and borrowed a friends 2x16" plow last year and was able to pull it ok.

the plow was a 3x16" he bought for little and just cut the back plow off.

I only choked up once with the ford plow, do not know the condition of the points as it was a borrowed plow.
It was very dry and hard when I broke it with the ford plows.

but they worked much better than my old mf 12" plows.

I have a set of MF disc plows and they will work, but leave the ground very rough.

do you think these ford 142 plows are worth $300?

From what I see,300 is a very fair price.Go price a new off brand from TSC or other. But I am in western Colorado,we dont use very many one way plows here.

If I needed a two-bottom plow, I'd certainly give $300 for one like that. Make sure it's category 1 hitch though. I've never seen a cat II 2-bottom but that doesn't mean it can't be.

That looks to be heavy for a cat 1 hitch and the back end of the box beam looks like it was torched off like it was a 3 bottom and if so it was made for a 60 horse tractor and they would be cat 2.

talked to my retired farmer friend today,
he said he thinks its a cut down plow as most were 4,5,or 6 bottom plows.

he said to past on it.
so I will,

will look for a 101 model 2x16 or 2x14

found this plow in the same money range

its a 3x14, but I could take the center plow off and have a modern ford plow, 101 model I think.

my little TO-35 should be able to pull the 2x14 plow and the plow should give me plenty of throat area to turn over debris.

anyone have a plow like this one and does it do a good job???????????

Have a red one my dad used with 960 ford and I've used it with my 961 ford. It does a fairly decent job in our clay soil.

If I took off the rear plow would I lose the ground guide that is attached to the rear plow?

I assume you would need that part or can it be taken off the third plow and attached to the second plow.

Thanks Fred

I have a 3 X 14 red Ford 101 also a 3 X 12 101. Excellent plows. Easy to pull, points and shins available. Good plows.

You remove the middle bottom, you will have a screwed-up mess.Remove the 3rd bottom and its framework. Then transfer the landside to the 2nd bottom.do not torch to remove! buy new bolts if you must, but dont destroy anything.Someday you may want to buy a bigger tractor and go to a 3 bottom....
