I have a John Deere 4 Bar, do not know what model it is, only has a serial number tag which says "John Deere LRB 82131" I need to figure out what model it is so i can try to find parts for the drive system.

Thanks in advance,

Leo

4 bar could be the old horse drawn 594 or the low wheel model of that rake at 594LW or it could be a parallel bar. Need more information. Not familuar with numbers like that. Or the parallel bar rakes. Just the old style.

It is a 4 bar, pull type, definitely not a horse drawn. From even further searches it appears to be a 850 series. It currently has a little hitch on the drive wheels, thinking someone changed the u-joints at one time with the wrong ones, lots of play in them, which i think gets bound up and then releases. Hopefully I can get the proper replacements for it.

Take a look at the <a href="http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/JDPC/attachments.jsp?associatedPc=PC0234.PDF">John Deere Parts Catalog PC234</a> for the 850 Series Side Delivery Rakes.

Hope this helps.

I have an 851 I think as it doesn't appear to have had a yellow frame. Good rake but a couple years ago I wanted to replace one of the bearing shafts on the end of one of the bars, JD wanted $350 for it and had 20 left in system. I built it up with welder.

It looks exactly like the picture, except there are no markings other than the serial number plate to identify it. Very little paint too. I put all new tines on it a few years ago using the tractor supply ones, they seem to work pretty good. I found the proper part number, now hope my JD dealer can get them, or cross reference with one that will work. I hope to get some fresh paint on it either yet this fall or next spring. For being as old as it is, it still is a good rake.

Rebuilt a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgKBuc5Qi8Q&feature=share&list=TLYUhOQKNhudZ-PK03e0YB7QUwyau4DUON">JD 640 hay rake</a> several years ago; it works just fine for what we need.

Same story here.

makes you wonder - is ANYBODY ever going to pay the 350 for those parts?

Seems like they price them high enough so they can always brag about having some very old stuff in their system.

If I recall correctly, they had stripper bars for around $250 each. I bent my own and welded some threaded ends on for about $20.

That's just like mine, however, yours even missing the bar is in allot better shape than mine is.... No signs of any green paint anywhere and chains to hold up the rake basket on the side closest on the picture. Definitely an 851. Thanks! Leo
