Re-plumbing the old sprayer

Getting around to getting my old sprayer in working order. Basically a 100 gallon tank on a rolling frame. Hose to pto pump, then pump to a three way splitter valve. Valve has three outlets to go to center, left, and right boom nozzles. It also has a return hose to tank. There are two outlets on valve without anything attached to them. What I don't know is where the strainer/filter gets spliced in. Since I have the two open pipes on the splitter valve I am thinking maybe there? Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!

In the hose between the tank and the pump inlet.

The 2 extra outlets are perhaps for a wand sprayer for one. You wouldn't want a strainer on the pressure side, would force too much stuff through the screen.

I see there is a bracket down low in that area. I thinks that is where she goes, in line like you and others said. Thanks!

With a roller pump, you strain between the tank outlet and pump inlet. Keeps grit and whatever
from getting between the close tolerance of the rotor and pump housing wall.
With a centrifugal you strain after the pump. No
close tolerances here, but a stopped up strainer on the suction side, you starve the pump, lip seal
heats, warps and you start leaking out the weep
hole on the pump shaft.
A positive displacement piston,John Blue you
strain before the pump. Keeps matter from getting under either the inlet valves or discharge valves.
