Belt Lacer

Have a 10 inch vise lacer (one you use a vise with) to lace my belts on my baler. Had it for several years. The last few years it seems harder and harder to get the staples all the way into the belts. Actaully have broke a couple vises by using a cheat bar on the vise. Had someone else borrow it when they broke a belt on their baler and they said it was hard to get staples in.
Without belt or staples in the unit, the lacer closes real easy.
Been thinking about buying on of those lever vise that Shoup has in their catalogue, just wondering if any one had ever used them and what they thought of them. Can you use them with the belt still on the baler, or is removing the belt still neccessary. Would be nice if could do repair in field
Any other ideas or thoughts on using a normal vise welcomed.

I have one of those type lacers and mine puts the staples in pretty good. I take a hammer and drive the staples in a little more, this is what I have seen 2 different tractor dealerships do. I wish I had a different type setup on my vermeer though.

Clipper makes a roller lacer that is lightweight and very portable and can be used without taking the belts out of your baler. I know its available in a 12 inch and 36 inch size, I have used the 36 inch machine and it works really good and is easily adjusted for different belt thicknesess

Change staples? Place I get mine has some on a pale green card and some on a pale blue card. Not sure what the difference is but the blue ones are the devil to deal with.

How big a vise are you using? A 10 inch lacer requires a big vise to start with. Lubrication helps, on the lacer and the vise screw. What size are the clipper hooks?

JD has several kinds of lacers that work on other brands of belts better too. We used a Alligator ? brand lacer on industrial belts but they made lacers of all kinds. Got the stuff for it at industrial bearing supply place.

on belts with ribs on them take a side grinder and grind the ribs off so the belt is flat. if you don't the ribs will push the staples out. also use a piece of brass brazing rod to go through the staples instead of that coat steel cable junk. it bends to ease and puts to much strain on just one staple. i bend the ends over about 1/2 inch on each end. bend one end in the vise before you put it in.

Put the lacer in the press(20ton) with a flat peice of steel on top where you press. Can"t ever get them tight enough on the vice.

hi im jason from california. im hoping someone on here will be able to help me out. a friend of mine gave me this box that a tenant left when he moved out. it was all aluminum and looked interesting. i had no idea what it was or did. turns out it is a clipper roller lacer 36 by flexco. i have 4 boxes of clips and other items i dont no what they are for. can anyone here tell where is a good place to sell this thing? i have pics and i will give someone a great deal. i do no how much they go for and with all the accessories i am asking 900 obo. am looking for some honest advice. thank you
