Weight of 8-foot Cultipacker

About how much would a standard 8-foot cultipacker weigh? Could you haul one a 1/2 ton pickup? I passed on one today that sold for $80.00. Wasn't sure how I'd get it home. Packer wheels were kind of sloppy so I don't feel real bad. Just curious for the next time.

If you mean the single gang 8 foot packer I would guess it at under a 1000 lbs. A 1/2 ton pickup should handle it.

I bought a Brillion years ago, 8ft. 15+ years ago for $60 and that was before scrap metal when through the roof.

brought it home in my 1/2 ton short bed pickup.

you should have bought it, not many left around, and they weight so much, that folks can take them to the scrap yard for cash.

it was not perfect, but with a little work it has done the job for all these years.
small seed will really come up better when they have been run over with a cultipacker.

They are making a comeback here (SW Michigan.) The usually bring 4 to 6 hundred at the auctions I've attended. Good to know I can haul one home for the next time.

Around here, they are scarce but I've seen them reasonable $400-$500 and or upward. I'd have handed him the money and worried about that later LOL !

Even a fixer upper would seem to be worth it.

Someone has an ad on CL locally for new cultipackers, of their manufacture, and those are well over $1200 if I recall, single not a double roller.

I got an old but good IH, probably designed for horse drawn, 8 foot for $300. Figured I got a bargain. Scrap value would be almost that much.
Hauled it home on a 4 wheel car hauler trailer. Hardly squatted the springs.

Yup. I screwed up big time. I need to be a little more aggressive. I've been to enough auctions to know that was a heck of a buy. Even if I didn't use it, I could have held it until spring and probably tripled my money at least.

Yup I think you did, around here an 8ft roller would start at 500.00 and go up and that's one without transport wheels. jim
