melroe pull type plow

I have a melroe 911 6 18"s pull type plow. the bottoms trip to easy and I have tried putting more tension on the springs but it don"t seem to help. what else can I try?

I have a 911 4 16 pull type that I use in the heavy clay. The guy I brought it from said he had heavy clay and it rarely tripped . I put in my ground and they were tripped more than in the ground. brought it up to the shop and cranked the springs as tight as they would go. Seemed to do the trick. Clay has been hard lately with the dry weather. I'm pulling it with a 3588 2+2 down in 2nd gear at times. even then the tractor would come to stop and sit and spin. That was last fall and this spring when it was awfully dry. But even in those conditions, the bottoms would stay down most of the time. Is it possible that the springs lose their strength over time? Otherwise crank them down all the way and see what happens.

There is a p shaped piece of metal that if you grind down is how to change how hard it trips the springs are just to reset the bottom although cranking em down does help some

The p shape piece is what changes the cam angle to make it trip harder or less agco might have the different sizes I don't know I couldn't find any

I went on the melroe website and they gave a number in ND for for plow parts , Morris rod weeder company . But that number was disconnected. Called Melroe customer service and they gave me the same number. Goggled morris rod weeder and seems like that co is all in Canada now. Have'nt tried to contact them there. Broke the bracket that holds the onland wheel axel to the frame. in the process of making one now. Don't know about the p shape piece that 4020 deerboy talks about. Possibly that could be worn?

. Found that P shaped piece that 4020 mentioned. Also on the bottom side of the bracket that holds the springs there are 2 set screws that look like they would change the angle and possibly change the force it takes to trip the bottom. Wish someone who knows more than us about these plows would jump in here.

The set screws don't seem to help much either if you do grind the p shaped piece down just go maybe a 1/4 on each on at a time maybe not even that much it will really make a big difference on how the plows work on hard ground. To get the p shaped piece out I chained each bottom to a big tree and then drove the tractor ahead to trip the bottom its a good idea to use a block of wood to help hold the beam up while you take the piece out just in case the chain broke

Glad it worked for you we were having a hell of a time till I asked on here and somebody told me what I told you . If you do happen to get one set a little to tight there a bolt that acts like a shear bolt to
