Disc chisel

My big tractor is a oliver 1850 92-94 pto hp.
Saw a 5 shank glenco disc chisel st a equipment dealer not to far. I have pulled a 9 shank chisel but prefer the 7 shank chisel but always thought disc chisel was out of the question. In my soils a neighbor pulls a 9 shank glenco soil saver with 4 in twisted shanks with a 180 hp case 2590. Could I pull a 5 shsnk ???

I think you'd be okay. I pull a 7 with 4in twisted with my 115hp john deere 4320. It definitely knows it's back there but does a good job. You could go down to 3in shovels if need be, but unless you're in heavy clay or lots of hills, I think it would work.

Another thought, try it out. A lot of times dealers don't mind if you want to try it before you buy it.

I am supposed to be able to pull a 9 shank with my 140hp tractor. I found and bought a 7 shank Glencoe SS, and glad I did. I have very tough yellow clay soil.

That is 20 hp per shank, and I pulled through dry compacted soil the plow would not stay in last year. Basically think a paved parking lot..... Very tough conditions within the tough soil I have.

So I think you have a good shot at the 5 shank working out for you.
