jd 300 picker head

can i just add a 3 row narrow head to a 300 picker or does take some sort of modification? thought i read on here someplace (can't find it now) that something else had to be done to add the three row instead of the two row head.

If I remember correctly, the 343 used a different shaft and hub in the drive than the 243 or 244 heads (yes Deere made a 243 2 row narrow for this picker). You should be able to look up the parts diagrams at Deere's parts lookup site.
