long 3 point backhoe

I recently purchased a long 1199a 3 point hitch backhoe. Its missing the bottom cylinder that raises the boom. I was wondering if anyone knows what type or size cylinder it takes?

I have a Long 1190B backhoe with manual and parts book. Above is page from parts book showing boom cylinder. Dimensions are shown with exception of cylinder diameter which is three inch bore and about 3-3/8 outside. Surplus Center shows having crosstube cylinders of 32 and 38 inches retracted length. Their cylinders have 1 inch pin diameters though. If you decide on one of their cylinders ,
a welding shop could cut off the 1 inch dia. crosstubes and weld new 1-1/8 tubes to fit the 1-1/8 pins of the Long backhoe.
Hope this helps.

One other thing, if you notice in the diagram, the piston rod does not fully retract into the cylinder when fully retracted. This could be something to consider in making a decision about trying to make some other cylinder than an original fit on the unit.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm hoping I can get the right cylinder with the info you gave me. There is a place close by that can make them.

I just measured the cylinder . The barrel assembly, item 1 in diagram, is 29-3/4 inches long, plus the gland, item 6 in diagram projects another quarter inch beyond the end of the steel barrel. The gland is made of aluminum. Nothing in the parts book tells the stroke length of this cylinder. I will look in the specifications to see if it states it there.

Went by where I got backhoe from and they found cylinder prop beside a building. The cylinder is pitted pretty bad but at least I have something to work with. I wonder what the difference is between a 1199a and a 1199b backhoe.

"A" model had foot pedal operated controls for stabilizers. "B" model had hand operated levers for stabilizers. Glad you found the cylinder.

Ok I had been wondering if the pedals where to make it swing or not. Thanks for clearing that up.

I been trying to polish the cylinder up today, it probably will leak put maybe it will be usable to check out the operation of backhoe and then go from there.
