Cyclo 800 end transport

I actually DO my research on these things before I buy them but it is not always easy to get the full picture. So it turns out that the end transport tongue on the planter is designed to fit a special bar you put on the 3 pt hitch. It was my hope to move this thing down the road behind my 3/4 ton chevy PU. I have heard there are hitches you can put on the truck which will allow you to tow such things OR I was wondering about modifying the tongue. Anyone out there who has pulled one behind a pickup who can help me out?

My suggestion would be to find/locate a used or new vertical section of a gooseneck which contains the ball latching system. Attach the entire vertical neck to the box beam that extends from the planter frame and normally attaches to a 3pt mounted bar. Could be welded directly but possible to weld brackets on each side with the necessary holes to use a couple of U bolts around the planter's extended box beam. Should be able to mount a ball on your rear hitch, connect and tow. Alternative might be to completely shorten the vertical neck so that you only have the ball latch mechanism and use the normal gooseneck ball already mounted in the truck bed.

Yes, IH uses a special hitch bar. IH used this universal hitching system on planters, cultivators, rotary hoes. The idea was so you could back in...put in two pins and third linkage and away you go.
On that 800....I have much experience. You will need something that will lift the front pretty high. Not much clearance between the road and the first row unit. IH dealer here modified a pickup with a hitch unit and towed them with the truck, but they modified the springs so to keep it at a proper level.

Appreciate the ideas! Been on a road trip to get some parts for this unit. Only place I could find with my unit being parted out was a few hours away but I made it there and now have the complete end transport plus other parts on the truck. Going to look into a hitch modification for the PU as it would be best to pull it (slowly) behind the truck down the road rather than the tractor. I'll look into that fifth wheel idea. Thanks all!
