Any success straighting spindles?

I bought a gravity wagon with a bent spindle for the box. The rest of the gear isn't that bad. It has a 300+/- bushel box on it. What has been your experience straightening these? I'm thinking it will just bend back with all that weight on it, or worse, break with a full load.

Never yet found one that you could straighten out and have stay that way. Once bent it is scrap iron

With a box that big you will have allot of weight on the gear when loaded. I would look at replacing the spindle with a new one. I would also make sure your gear is heavy enough for that size of a box. Especially since the spindle was bent on it.
I broke a spindle 6 miles from home, on the road, a couple years ago. That was just on a small 125 bu. wagon full of shelled corn. I could not find a replacement so I had a machine shop rebuild the broken one. I won't pull that wagon on the road anymore. I don't want to have to go through that again.
