KING KUTTER FINISH MOWER PULLEY?

I have a 5' KK finish mower about 10 yrs old. Both idler pulleys under the hinged gear box are shot. Do I remove the pulleys from the top of the deck, or from under the deck?

Is there a written procedure for KK pulley replacement anywhere?

Thank,
Muskie

On my 6' KK all you need to do is remove the rearmost two nuts from the gearbox plate and loosen the front two. This will let it swing up and forward.

The two idler pulley should be held on by two more lock nuts ON TOP OF THE DECK.

Just swing the gearbox out of the way and any lock nuts that remain on the idler pulleys.

No problem.

Just don't honk down on those lock nuts when you re-install them so the idler can float. I had one too tight, and wore out the bearings in a spindle.

You kind of have to tighten and check to get it set right. Even tightening the nut for the gearbox plate can cause it to lock up.

Not too loose, not too tight.
