336 john deere baler with 30 thrower problems

the baler works great but the thrower is the problem. it stays on 8 all the time. we leave it there for the longer racks. the first 10 bales will make it to the back of the wagon but thats it. will throw to the middle only and sometimes not over the front of the rack at all. all desity and weight of bales this happens.

i have put new belts on for the pump, oil level is good and it had a leak on the cylinder for the thrower pan itself that i had fixed. it has done this even before all this work was done. any thoughts?

check the slip clutch on the baler.

if the slip clutch was bad would that affect the whole baler not just the thrower? the whole baler itself works just fine. no troubles

I"m assuming that it throws the best when the hydraulic oil in the thrower is cold? If so, once the oil is warm and thinner, what seals could it be leaking past to reduce thrower power?

yes. it throws the best cold. obivously not too cold but cold from sitting. pretty pathetic when it cant throw straw bales to the back of the wagon

the pump could be worn out. I had one that would work with cold oil but as soon as you made 20-35 throws it would lose distance. That's what my problem was, yours may be different.

Make sure you are running the PTO near 500-540rpm. Big difference in pump pressure when running slower than rated PTO speed. Aside from that, my guess is your control valve unit needs to be rebuilt.

Also, FYI, in my experience with #30 ejectors, if you run the ejector over 6 to get heavy bales (60+ lb) into the wagon, you are going to break the H frame at the pivot point (most have already broken and show the typical welds and re-welds). So, once you get things running normally, be careful when using the higher numbers on the control valve with heavy bales. 6 should be plenty to throw 45-50lb bales over the back of an 18ft wagon if the ejector is working properly at 500+ PTO speed.

where would you check the pump pressure at? i have guages for hydraulic testing.
