NH 276 Baler Big Bang... oops?

Was baling very well then the big bang! bang! bang! happened.

Something broke in the tine feeder finger mechanism. One roller is gone, it is out of the track, broke the aluminum tine fingers. Tine bar and mechanism is moving out of track when the flywheel is turned. Big rod seems OK.

I really don't know where to start to fix this and where to look for potential damage.

Manual is of no value. How do i put it back together and where would you look for damage after you get it reassembled? Can I install a new roller and then, how do i put it back in the track?

Sorry if this sounds vague...but it is hard to visualize, as is.

Edd,

I have a 273 baler, not a 276. About two years ago I rebuilt the tine feeder fingers and bearings. On mine, I was able to dissaemble the end of the slide rack that the finger assembly rides in from the far end, away from the plunger. After removing the stuff over there, I was able to slide the whole mechanism out of the baler. My tine finger assembly consists of three segments with six fingers on it. I bought some new and some used parts from All States Ag Parts (877) five three zero 443 zero.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

You can make replacement for aluminum rods with stock aluminim rods available at most metal retailers. Make sure you get proper diameter, as they're not all the same. Cut pointy end at about 60 degrees. Bang was probably the broken rod going through the plunger knife. Or whatever broke the rod... tree branch, rock, etc. Bearings can be replaced, Can probably second source them at a bearing supply house,or NAPA. NAPA will probably bemore expensive.

Update....
Dawn shed a little light on the situation. A roller came off the tine carrier. It fell down out of the track and made a heck of a racket until we got it shutdown. Made some big dents but, I don't think the damage is too bad.

Called the local NH dealer and he told me how to get to it, to repair it and reinstall it. Parts...not cheap...but still available.... for a 45 year old baler.
