Our MF #12 baler went to heck and fortunately a neighbor had a #10 we were able to get. Two questions: 1. the #10 drops a bale about 1 in 10 bales. the #12 basically didn"t drop any while we used it (12 years). Is there a big difference between the two? (just looking at them they look really similar to me. 2. Does anyone know where to look up the production dates of the balers from serial numbers etc.? (or even how long both models were produced)
Thanks in advance,

By "drops a bale" I assume you mean breaks it? Usually a factor of proper adjustment or wear on the baler tying mechanism.

The 10 and 12 are baisicly the same baler. The 12 is a little newer.Consult the owners manual. It will have detailed troubleshooting giudes,,detailed knotter adjustments/repairs.It will be the cheapest 'repair' part you will ever buy.The best 35.00 you will ever spend....

Yes, it misses tieing a knot. It happens on both sides. The knots look the same between the two balers to me. If they (the balers) are the same except for older vs. newer versions, would the manuals I have for the #12 be accurate?

They should work.Same knotter.The # 10 is a little older/'slower'.it has fewer strokes per minute.IIRC,the 12 has 80 spm.The 10 has 70spm
