woods mower spindle bearings

I am working on a woods rd7200 with a noisy bearing. I removed the spindle from the deck but....can someone tell me how to separate it? The shaft will not slide out....please help

It may take a while to dig through it, but the Woods website is very good about offering manuals you can download, print off, etc.
Seems like the spindle on a belly mower was different than any other I had worked on- like a roll pin though a collar held it together?! I wasn't impressed. Almost seemed like I had to drill a new shaft. But I just remember exactly.

Sad thing is it has only 20 hours on it....I have the exploded diagram and shows no retaining pins or clips...nothing. no idea how to separate the spindle

Looking at the parts diagram, I would say you need a puller to remove the hub from the shaft. It looks like a crush bushing inside the top bearing which tightens every thing up.

I broke two casting with my 50 ton press. You will need to build a fixture to keep that from happening on some. The first two that I put new bearings in pressed right out. I kept buying used one off ebay until I got three good ones.
When I got them apart I only had one that the bearing were loose. Could have been pressed tight without the problems.

It's been a few years since I replaced the bearings in a King Kutter mower but they are likely the same with your Woods.
Try prying out the upper seal first. There should be a circlip underneath it. Remove that and you can press them out.
If you have greaseable bearings in there
I recommend spending the extra $ to go with a sealed bearing. The OEM greaseable bearings would only last a year or two. And I do grease stuff before I run it. Man at the bearing house recommended sealed type and they lasted for several years till I sold the mower.

They use a very tight press fit. Most likely to insure the the bearing stays in place without using a locking nut that would make the spindle much longer. Just my guess.
