I suspect you are asking about the NI 5209 disc mower/conditioner. The gray and early red machines up to serial number 18837 had the long single hex shaft. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the segmented shaft was implemented during the 1995 production year. The 5212 machine got the segmented hex shaft at serial number 19142, same model year. The 1509 may be a Heston model number as the New Idea product line was folded into the Heston line before being absorbed by Massey Ferguson. The current version of the 5209 lives on as a Massey Ferguson 1359. Nice little easy pulling machine that doesn't take gobs of power like most other brands do.

It would appear from studying my service manual (79017090) that it would be possible to upgrade an early machine to a segmented hex shaft. However, every disk unit will have to be separated in order to install the segmented shaft. But it would be wise to check with your AGCO dealer, as I'm just guessing.
