King Kutter belt

I have a "heavy duty" 72" finishing mower, rear discharge that uses a double belt. The double belt is like two belts side by side and the back of the belts is common and about 1.5" wide.

The first belt had chunks out of the vee's in a few hours (TSC no warranty on belts). Got replacement brand name and has lasted a few years and now it is chunking out on one strand.

Have any of you had experience using only the non- heavy duty mower with a single strand belt. I only power it with an 8N Ford.

Are you replacing only one of a double belt set? My understanding is that you have to get 2 belts with the same lot number. Perhaps that is why you have had issues.

It is like a double belt but has a common back. Believe they are called banded, or power band.

Yes, if they were two separate belts they have to be matched.

I've swapped out double banded belts on our older New Idea haybine with singles that are much, much cheaper. I buy goodyear belts from a belting & hose dealer, not the cheap ones from the hardware store.

They don't last quite as long, but at 1/3-1/4 the cost for 2 pair vs. 1 of the 2 AGCO ones, as well as being able to change them without dropping the jackshaft, it's worth it. Just gotta try to keep the oil off when oiling the chain right next to them.
