boomless sprayer

anyone use a boomless sprayer to spray round up on corn? this would be round up ready corn. wondered if it works just as good as booms. i dont have booms on my sprayer.
 
Biggest issue with a boomless sprayer is that it doesn"t tolerate as much wind as a boom type. In the 50s Dad had a Hanson Brodjet triple nozzle made in Beloit, WI.
 
Gary guys around here used them to spray 2-4D on corn for years. just had to make sure the wind was not blowing the spray all over you.
 
I've used one for both roundup (to kill out the old hay field prior to planting winter wheat) and for 24D to kill the broadleaf weeds in the field in the spring. They don't like wind and are a bit hard to accurately apply without skips. I'd rec. planning to spray about 10% overlap (5% each side so on mine that supposedly does 30 ft I find that I get skips unless I'm closer to 25 or 26 feet), they aren't very smooth on how they apply at the far reaches of their width. Of course it could just be me.
 
No- it"s not just you.....they simply don"t have the pattern consistency of a boom. It"s the nature of the beast. Dad used the Brodjet on oats with 2,4-D in the 50s.....also got some custom work with the township by spraying roadsides with just the right side nozzle open. 50s technology, not like now.
