I just dug an old two bottom plow out of the woods yesterday, that I'd like identified so I could find some information to fix it up to use.
FYI..... the "green stuff" on it is not John Deere paint, it's moss, but it may be a JD plow.
A make and model would be great!
Thanks for any help.

Take a wire brush across the top of the beam, and see if there is anything stamped there. Also see if there are any casting #'s on any parts.

Thanks for your reply.
I had a few casting #'s from yesterday, but I'll look at the beams this morning.
Some of the numbers were hard to read, but this is my best guess.....
Disc bracket / yoke D517-A
Hitch 1486L
Rear wheel hub T235
Clutch housing 1448A

Photo of the hitch attached.

Thanks, Tom

It is very old to be a chain lift and I think IHC as well as Cockshutt made chain lift plows, don't think Deere ever did.

Thank you, I'll concentrate on those two. I didn't see any photos with the chain operated lift last night, after searching, but will keep trying!
P.S.- I did not find any casting numbers on the main rails.

D517A is a John Deere coulter yoke, but that part easily adapts to other plows. That isn't a John Deere plow. The other numbers don't resemble JD part numbers.

Bob, Thanks, that clears that up for sure, as that one part did say "John Deere" on it, but no others.
There's not one part that isn't wore out or that my grandfather didn't weld up, but I'd like to get it "usable" again if I can figure out what it is.
I haven't seen any Internet plow photos showing a plow clutch with a chain like mine, but I'll keep hoping. Thanks!

As far back as you can possibly go what make tractors did he have as it is possible to be same make as the tractor. Also where are you located as that could help with the identification as some were more popular in certain areas. Also take a share off and look there for numbers or on the back of the moldboard. Number might still be on back side of a landside.

Leroy, My grandfather had a F-12 and F-14 IH Farmall early on in Minnesota, but he wasn't one to buy anything new that I can recall, lol.
I may start taking a little section of the plow apart at time, fixing it up, and re-attaching, so hopefully I'll find more casting numbers.
Thanks, Tom

That would indicate McCormick as it would have been a used plow at the time those tractors came out, Was probibly built for the 8-16 tractor before the 10-20 tractor. And in your location was probably not much Cockshutt machinery sold there as they were in eastern Canada.

I found photos of a Grand Detour Plow, and a Case Plow, that both have a very similar looking chain operated trip mechanisms. And I find out that Case bought out Grand Detour.
If anyone has photos of either with the chain drive trip, I'd love to see them, and of course, find out the model of my plow, and a manual.
Thanks, Tom

I finally found a BX14 number on the molboard today
which searches indicate that number on a
Case / Grand Detour plow.
Now that I know what brand it is, how do I determine the model of the plow so that I might find a manual, illustration, or other help?
